Specific - make your goal precise. Envision yourself achieving your goal.
Measurable - knowing your target so you can measure progress along the way
Attainable - make it believable, not too drastic, and just out of your comfort zone
Relevant - your goal should speak to your personal vision and mission
Timeframe - a start date and a deadline are important in implementing your goal and in providing motivation.
A few more important factors:
- Have an 'AccountabilaBuddy'. Sharing your goal with someone is great for helping to keep you on track.
- Write them down and review them daily. Keep your goals fresh in your mind each day.
- Stay positive. Our thoughts and words are very powerful because they set our focus and impact motivation. Don't think of your goal as a tedious grind that you have to do because then that's exactly what you're setting it up to be: drudgery. Instead, use positive images and words and enjoy the process, embrace it.
Next time I'll share ways to plan for potential roadblocks that may impede your way to success. For now, think about your goal, write it down, and apply the SMART method. Remember, your wellness is in YOUR hands.
