“If my co-workers offer me unhealthy snacks, then I will politely refuse and eat one of my healthy stacks from home.”
Putting “if-then” into practice:
- Identify critical action you need to take to reach your goals.
- When and where should you take this action? What is the critical situation?
- Put it all together: “If (or When) _________________ , then _________________.
- Think about an obstacle that might derail you. This could be a temptation, a distraction, or some other factor that would interfere with your progress. When that temptation or distraction comes calling, how will you handle it? What will you do instead?
Write it down. Just as writing your actual goal is important, writing down potential hazards is equally so.
Set your goal. Be determined. Have an effective strategy for successfully handling situations that would otherwise take you off course.
Stay positive. You CAN achieve your goal. There may be some bumps in the road, but you'll be ready. If something unforeseen happens, make an adjustment and continue moving forward. Remember, YOUR wellness is in YOUR hands.
