![]() I just finished reading "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. It's a really well-written, poignant, witty, and thought-provoking story about young love - only the young-in-love both have terminal cancer. It is narrated by Hazel Grace who, as she puts it, has "crap lungs" and must drag around an oxygen tank by day and be hooked up to a larger one at night. As I read, I was reminded again of how fortunate I am to have my health. It also made me think of how we often take our health for granted. We mostly don't think about our health until confronted with illness, disease, a broken bone, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity. Then we turn to pharmaceuticals to ease the pain and hope for the best. Hope for the cure. Make promises to ourselves that now it's time to pay attention, to start exercising and eating better. That's when we stop taking our health for granted because the ailment reminds us of how we felt before. Before illness. Before medications. Before the painful awareness of our former inattentiveness to our health and wellness. Why didn't I take better care of myself? I have to do it now. A question to consider: What is your health and wellness worth to you? I guess this is where I should insert a clever quote such as, "health is the real wealth" or "without health what is there?" or "health is the greatest of all possessions". However, unless these are genuine life affirmations or mantras that you're truly heeding, living in a manner that supports these pronouncements, then they'll just remain words on the screen. Meaningless really. YOU are in charge of your wellness. YOU get to choose how you're going to feel. YOU get to choose whether you will take care of the body you have through proper nutrition, exercise, and consciousness (mindfulness). YOU can decide to make the changes that can help you live and BE healthier. YOU CAN ENHANCE YOUR WELLNESS THROUGH YOUR CHOICES. Whether you DO or you DON'T, you've made a choice. You've either chosen to ignore your health or to enhance it. My clients come to me when they have reached a breaking point. When they realize that it is time to reclaim their wellness and truly want the healthier lifestyle. There's a renewed desire within them to not only remember how it felt before [insert whatever ailment] permeated their lives, but they want to live it/feel it/be it again. What is the "it" they want to live/feel/be? It's health. Happiness. Strength. Wellness. They want to live the life that they were meant to. And they understand that having the support of a health coach is necessary to succeeding in reaching their 'it". My job is to be your wellness mentor. I will provide you with the tools you need to balance your wellness - meeting you where you're at now - and supporting you on your wellness path. Please, don't take your health for granted. Reclaim it. Don't procrastinate any more. TODAY is the day. Contact me for a complimentary consult. Choose wellness.
